#95 - New shoes and foreign shoe stores

This is just a quick post for a rather boring shoe save/work outfit last week.

Top from Karen Millen, skirt from Banana Republic, and shoes from Imagination, which is (I think) a Chinese shoe/clothing store in town that I randomly discovered one day. Their shoes are fairly cheap, and rather cute, so I bought a couple of pairs.

There's a shopping arcade near my work that is full of little Japanese and Korean stores, both restaurants and boutiques. I had never really bought anything there before, but I was walking through it one day a week or two ago when I saw these shoes in a store window.

I immediately fell in love with them, because of their beautiful print and coral pink ribbon, and I knew they'd match perfectly with a dress I'd bought recently. The only problem was, the store was closed. I walked past a few more times over the next couple of weeks, and it was closed every time I went past. I started to think that maybe the store had shut down, and my beautiful shoes would be trapped inside forever!

But one day, it was open, and I went inside and bought the shoes, even though they are too small and very tight. Have you ever bought a pair of shoes that were the wrong size, just because they were cute? I probably shouldn't have done it, but I've been googling "how to stretch shoes", and I'll see how that goes!

  1. oh wow i can so relate to you korean pair of shoes for two reasons:

1.) I bought a pair in korea with the same markings inside the shoe..is it "edge stymaker davinchi" or something like that? Must be the same brand..( I wrote about my Korea shoe in this post: http://lifeisashoe.blogspot.com/2011/04/korea-shoes.html

2.) the very shoe that i'm talking about is also a bit too tight for me! It's so hard to buy shoes in Korea because their sizes are so small but I Had to buy it because the style was so cute!

  2. ah yes, it's exactly the same brand! (Well, it says "nj shoes" and "Davinchi" on the sole, and "edge style maker Davinchi" inside the shoe. I have no idea what that's supposed to mean, but I think it's cute!) I think these are about a size too small for me... I will wear them anyway, but they're going to hurt! I am currently trying to stretch them out by stuffing them with newspaper, but I don't expect I'll have much luck with it. Your Korean shoes are all really pretty :)

  3. Ooooh, I have more than one pair that are too tight. I am extremely stubborn though, so I usually wear them long enough until they actually fit. (my feet aren't too keen about that technique -or lack thereof- though) Normally I start by wearing them for small periods of time around the house, while sitting at the table or on the sofa.

Another technique I've read about but haven't tried myself, is to put bags of water in them and put the shoes with the water in the freezer. While the water freezes the shoe will slowly stretch. I do believe this doesn't work very well on cheap, plasticky shoes though. And you can always just take them to your cobbler?

  4. Thanks for the tip! I had read about that in my various internet searches, but I wasn't sure if it would actually work. I might give it a try, but I'll have to be careful not to water-damage my shoes.

I think they are going to be hard to stretch out because they do feel quite hard and are some kind of synthetic material, but I'll keep trying because they're too pretty to part with!
