#97 - Too-short dresses

I've noticed that there seems to be a trend for super-short dresses these days. Sure, there is the occasional midi-dress around, but generally, dresses are way shorter than I want them to be. (Especially those from UK stores like Asos, Topshop, etc. I'm imagining the UK as a land where girls generally go around wearing inappropriately short dresses...) I don't like short dresses, because I am (a) conservative, (b) nearing 30, and (c) in a professional job.

Most of the dresses I own would be perfect if they were an inch or two longer. Maybe the problem is that I'm too tall. I've never really considered myself to be tall (I'm the shortest person in my family!), but I am apparently above the average height for women in Australia.

Anyway, for now I guess I'll have to stick with buying dresses that are cute but slightly short, and googling "how to make dresses look longer" (I'm thinking that wearing a tulle petticoat slightly longer than my dress might help).

This is yet another dress from Cue. Yes, I have now bought 5 dresses there in the past month or so... These are the problems I face in Spring, when all the clothes are beautiful, and the weather is warm enough to wear nice dresses again!

These sequined flat shoes are ones that I usually wear when walking to and from work, rather than as part of my outfit during the day. They've served me well - I've had them for years - but they're really starting to stretch and I'll probably need to replace them soon.

  4. Your dress is so gorgeous! I personally like them at/just above the knee, and I think that should be appropriate for work too. Also, I would like to give you the One Lovely Blog Award, because I enjoy seeing all your beautiful shoes and dresses and am always looking forward to the next post! 5. I absolutely share your annoyance with this. There are plenty of really sweet, 50s influenced dresses out there at the moment, but they all fall above the knee! So many gorgeous dresses have been put back on the rack for this reason. And I'm 5'2" so I hate to think how long they'd be on someone of a taller height!

Regardless, that Cue dress does look lovely on you. Polka dots make me happy :-)

  6. Thanks for the comments girls, and I'm sorry for my late reply! I wish I had a chance to come here and update my blog more often.

I think I'd have less of a problem with short dresses if I was a bit shorter, so I'm starting to envy girls who are! I like my dresses about knee length, or even slightly longer, so they're hard to find these days without going for midi-dresses which can sometimes look a bit dowdy.

I've noticed a few girls actually complaining to Review (one of my favourite stores, but also a store that has notoriously short dresses!) on their facebook page about the length of their dresses, so maybe some of these stores will start to take note of what their customers want!
