#13 - Cinderella

I went window-shopping at lunch time today, and a sales assistant in one of the shops commented on my outfit, and asked if I was going somewhere special. I told her that I was just at work, and she was really surprised, and started asking me about where I worked.

I get this a lot, and people are always surprised to hear that I'm a lawyer. Even though I work as a lawyer, I don't actually work for a law firm as such, and my workplace is much more flexible when it comes to things like this. Nobody there wears suits every day, and a lot of my colleagues even wear jeans for casual Friday (although I don't, as I like to dress up. And I usually end up in court on Fridays, too). I do dress more conservatively when I have to go to meetings, or to court. (Usually I'm putting on my jacket in the elevator on the way to court, while my boss is putting on his tie).

These are my favourite shoes. Most of the shoes I like best are heels, but even though these ones are flat, I think they are perfect. They're more plastic shoes by Melissa, and they're the J.Maskrey Night Sky Edition, covered in Swarovski crystals. I always get a lot of comments on these, and people often say that they're like Cinderalla shoes, or Dorothy shoes.
I think they add an element of fantasy to everyday outfits, and that's one of the reasons why I love them :)

  1. What a lovely outfit and shoes. I agree that they've got a distinct Cinderella vibe, but in a way that's still modern and grown-up.

I have to admit I'm also surprised you said you're a lawyer. I am too, and rarely wear suits, but I do wear dress pants 99% of the time, at least in winter. If I lived somewhere warmer, I'd probably wear pretty skirts more often too, which I do in the summer, and I think most people who don't know me would be surprised that I'm a lawyer too.

  4. Thanks, Ali & Zala!

9thcircleofbell, I think dresses are experiencing a revival here in Australia, and they're certainly good for the warm weather we have most of the time. Nobody else at my work really dresses like I do, but my colleagues and clients expect me to dress this way now. When I walk into the office, everyone looks at my shoes, and it's actually becoming quite embarrassing!

  5. Sara - I am so glad to meet another shoe obsessed lawyer. These shoes that you are wearing remind me of my friend Soshoemi's bubble wrap shoes http://soshoemi.blogspot.com/2011/02/so-bubbly.html.

  6. Gabfran, I believe Soshoemi's shoes are from Melissa like mine, and they're certainly interesting! Caveat Calcei has also recommended Soshoemi's blog to me, so I'll be sure to check it out.
